Goals Are Essential to Your Success

How Do You Set Your Goals?

I suggest you think of the following acronym (courtesy of Rick Warren) to help you determine your goals, plan to achieve them and implement your success.  You need F.A.I.T.H.

Focused: It’s specific, something you can measure.

Attainable: It’s possible and reasonable.  An unrealistic goal will lack support from others and end poorly.

Individual: It’s personal. It impacts you, your family, those who mean the most to you.  It is your goal to own.

Trackable: It has a specific deadline.  There is a timeframe from point A to point B.

Heartfelt: It’s something you are passionate about.  It has to be driven by your desire to achieve success.

Value of Goal Based Planning

Whether your goals are personal, health or finance related, you need to have a solid plan of action.  I am a firm believer in Goal Based Planning.  It is unfortunate that many advisors out there miss this crucial principle.  They often will invest your money, sell you an insurance product or give you advice without considering an overall financial plan.  These actions can dramatically impact your chances of long-term success.

You have to start with dreaming, discussing and determining your goals…what really matters to you (and your spouse) and is truly worthwhile.  Then you can build out the steps and details required to develop a financial life plan.  Having a plan is only the beginning.  It then takes action, support and discipline under the guidance of your professional financial advisor to help you keep the “train on the tracks” and make adjustments over time with the twists and turns that life throws your way.

Let’s start today.  If you would like to speak about developing a financial life plan, refine your current one or seek a second opinion of what you have been doing, please reach out to me at luke.fields@raymondjames.com or 614-431-4310.
